Gibbs Investment, part of well-respected firm of chartered surveyors P R Gibbs & Co, is to join a multi-sector trade mission to China, taking place between 20th and 31st October 2014.

Based in Westhoughton, Bolton, Gibbs Investment has recently established an office in Hong Kong in order to assist Chinese clients looking to invest in the UK property market. To support these new clients the firm has assembled a team of professional service providers in China, including accountants, lawyers and immigration advisers.

The mission, which has been organised by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), will see twenty one industry leaders from the North West of England visit three major Chinese business destinations, Wuhan, Chengdu and Hong Kong.

Through the mission Gibbs Investment owner and chairman Phil Gibbs will meet with a range of potential strategic partners in order to discuss and explore opportunities, such joint ventures and collaborations with firms and consultants. Whilst arranging his itinerary, Mr Gibbs has been assisted by the UKTI Asia Pacific Trade in the Northwest and the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), with the organisations securing meetings and making introductions to prospective partners.

To support the move into the Chinese market, the firm has commissioned Language Brand Communication to develop a new brand proposition, as well as a multilingual website, and marketing materials. Gibbs worked with Language’s specialist China Marketing Team, who provide specialist support and advice to companies looking to sell their products and services to audiences in China.

The Chinese economy has grown at just under 10% per year for 32 years, overtaking Japan in 2010 to become the world’s second largest economy. It is predicted to overtake the US in 2016. While many of the world’s major economies are still struggling to recover from economic contraction, China’s economy grew by 7.7% in 2013.

Phil Gibbs, owner and chairman of Gibbs Investment, said: “We are already generating significant business from Chinese clients, and this trade mission will allow us to further capitalise on this exciting opportunity. I’m deeply grateful to UKTI for organising this essential mission, and to CBBC for their support in developing our relationships with businesses in China.”

Philomena Chen, head of Asia Pacific Business for UKTI North West said: ‘’The North West saw the biggest percentage increase in the number of businesses trading in China and Hong Kong in 2013 compared to 2012 (11%). The next biggest increase was in London, which saw only a 4% increase. This trade mission is an excellent opportunity for the region’s businesses to make the most of their potential in Asian markets.”
